KCS organises cancer awareness lectures and holds free cancer detection camps. It also runs a free outpatient clinic, awareness programmes, and arranges MRI and CT scans at different cancer hospitals and provides drugs to patients at subsidised rates.
For more than 50 years Karnataka Cancer Society (KCS) has been a beacon of hope in the fight against Cancer, a disease which is now taking serious proportions in India. Over 12 lakhs new cases are reported every year, many being identified at late stages leading to poor survival rates.
While better treatment and more facilities are on obvious solution, the well-known adage “Prevention is better than cure” is very much applicable here. KCS is increasing its focus on prevention aspects by increasing awareness about cancer, advising on risk and symptoms if any. KCS is educating public on preventive steps like screening, which can be done very simply for 3 common cancers – Oral, Breast & Cervical.
